Foam Lake Heritage Marsh

The Foam Lake Heritage Marsh is part of the Quill Lakes International Bird Area, a major Saskatchewan birding area with projects in Foam Lake, Wadena and Wynyard.

Foam Lake has a marsh project, Wadena has a marsh/lake project and Wynyard has an interpretive project.

Travelers in the area can tune their FM radio to 99.1 Foam Lake, 103.5 Wadena, 103.3 Wynyard and listen to interesting messages about the projects.

The Quill Lakes International Bird Area website has lots of information about all the birding projects too. This is the part of the website with info about The Foam Lake Heritage Marsh and The Wadena Wetlands

The Foam Lake Heritage Marsh is a 6500 acre site, wetlands and uplands, managed by Ducks Unlimited Canada.

The Foam Lake Heritage Marsh is a nesting, molting and staging area for water fowl, shorebirds and songbirds. In any season, you can see hundreds or thousands of birds of every species. One fall, a bird count event saw 50,000 birds in one day.

The marsh is located about 3 miles northwest of the town of Foam Lake and is accessible from the south, north and east.

The Town of Foam Lake has created four self-guiding viewing sites with walking trails, signage and washrooms.

The Foam Lake Visitor Information Centre and Nature Centre on Highway 16 South Service Road in Foam Lake has maps of the marsh, a marsh interpretive display and a wetland diorama.

We urge you to come to Foam Lake and spend a day or longer walking our trails and looking at birds in our Foam Lake Heritage Marsh. Here are some aerial pictures to tempt you. Click to enlarge.
